Merry lockdown, Sydney

I’m feeling nostalgic as I write my last blog for our NMPE advice community for the year. Since I founded No More Practice more than 12 years ago, I have been driven by the knowledge that good quality financial advice can truly change lives. What the adviser has gone through is no less than a complete transformation – but at its heart, they’re still talented professionals who care about their clients.

You may have noticed I have taken on a more active role in educating Australians about their journey to money wellness. The pandemic and our uncertain times means people need a good storyteller to help them learn better ways to manage what they have and grow for the future. And that story inevitably leads to you – the adviser who can personalise financial plans and change peoples lives.

I can only imagine that 2021 is going to see an even bigger demand for quality financial advice. And grappling with limited advice and the bid to drive down the cost will mean more challenges for the advice community to take into your businesses, while still looking after your clients.

I hear from many of you, however, that the destruction of FASEA and the focus on advice delivery is welcome – and while the next few years will be challenging, the business of advice is very much headed in the right direction.

I hope that you all take the time to enjoy family and friends this holiday. If there is one thing that the pandemic has made abundantly clear, it’s the power of connection, and how much we all need to stay close. I’m also hoping to see many more of you in the flesh next year as the vaccine helps us get to the new normal.

As always, I want to thank you for your tremendous support of NMPE. With its new home at Iress I am more confident than ever before about what the education can accomplish, and how advisers can access new thinking about building profitable practices that have the client at the centre of the proposition. It feels like 2021 is going to be better.
